Cologne in the 70s. It could hardly be any better for Iwan Herstatt and his bank. Above all, a group of young foreign exchange traders ensures excellent balance sheets. It is no coincidence that they are called "golden boys". When Marie Breuer, who came from a humble background, got a job as a secretary in the bank thanks to the intercession of Irene Gerling - wife of Herstatt's financially strong childhood friend Hans Gerling - she entered a world that was new to her. At first Marie still had hopes that her boss Ferdinand von Broustin could have a serious romantic interest in her.
